Sra Al-An’m - The Sixth Sura of the Qur’an
Sūra al-An’ām (Arabic: سورة الأنعام) is the sixth sura of the Qur’an. The word al-An’ām means “The cattle grazing”, and this sura is named after the most prominent verse in it, which deals with the Prophet Abraham (as) and his sons and their encounter with the disbelievers.
The central theme of this sura is the principles of religious beliefs, and the main issue is the concept of monotheism. The word An’ām refers to all types of life, and is used by God to tell the Prophet Abraham (as) that the whole universe is under his control. It is the first sura in the Qur’an in which monotheism is mentioned. There are a number of reasons for this: the first is that the monotheism concept is discussed in the Qur’an itself. This sura also deals with the concept of prophethood, as it contains a prophecy that all the prophets before the Prophet Abraham (as) were actually prophets, and that their prophethood was true.
